Recorded on November 19th 2009, Ala Ghawas and his friends Oud player Hassan Haddad, Pianist Hesham Qasim, Cellist Hamed Saif with a later presence of Violinist Ali Al Olaiwi, took the stage of Sheikh Ebrahim Centre, a magical yet cozy theater that Ghawas carefully chose to portray where he came from, located in the heart of the old city of Muharraq, the city where Ala was born and where the Bahraini culture is, according to Ala himself.

“Live in Muharraq” showcases Ala’s ability as a stage performer after obtaining his reputation as a successful studio singer and songwriter. Featuring the most compelling cuts from his trilogy Hums, Whispers & Screams, Ala once again bridges his obvious love affair with American folk/rock music with his Bahraini roots and influences in a very slick arrangement of instruments. The album also features his signature covers from his direct influences like Elliott Smith’s “Between The Bars” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” based on Jeff Buckley’s cover.
